Celebrating 30 Years of Supporting Disability Rights 0

Susan working with children with disabilities in VietnamAs MIUSA approaches its 30th anniversary, I can say with limitless enthusiasm: we have only just begun! We are playing a critical role moving the international disability rights agenda forward by advancing the leadership potential of people with disabilities all over the world. After returning from several recent trips, including an inclusive development training in Jordan and the 20th Anniversary Celebration of the Americans with Disabilities Act at the White House, I am in awe of all that we have accomplished and motivated by all that we must do.

The MIUSA family of passionate leaders continues to grow. We hosted our most ambitious Women’s Institute on Leadership and Disability (WILD) yet in 2010, bringing together more than 50 women leaders with disabilities from 42 countries. Embracing the theme of “Loud, Proud and Passionate®”, these WILD women are energized to move forward in their personal and professional roles as community, national and world leaders.

As the disability movement strengthens around the world, the rights of people with disabilities will be recognized. It is an honor and a privilege to be part of this ground-breaking and innovative organization with you, our ardent supporters. I hope you will join me in looking forward to our 30th Anniversary as we continue to fulfill our mission to empower people with disabilities throughout the world.
